With our PV (Solar Energy System) investments, we are shifting toward renewable energy and designing the future today with systems that place less burden on nature.
However, sustainability for us is not only an environmental issue but also a human one. We prioritize the health and safety of our employees, providing a work environment that is respectful of human rights, inclusive, and fair. We also value social contribution, striving to create a system that grows and develops together with our stakeholders.

PV Investments (Solar Energy)

In line with our goals to reduce our carbon footprint and ensure environmental sustainability, we are accelerating our transition to renewable energy sources. Within this scope, we are transforming our energy infrastructure by investing in clean energy solutions such as solar power.

While in 2021 we sourced all the energy consumed in our production processes from the grid, with the rooftop PV investments we initiated in 2022, we began meeting 15% of the electricity consumption in our production processes from renewable energy sources by 2023.

Currently, with our Akhisar-1, Akhisar-2, Akhisar Central Warehouse, Akhisar Heybe Warehouse, and Uçantay Factory PV projects, we have a total installed capacity of approximately 4.5 MW.

We are rapidly increasing our investments in renewable energy. With the solar power plants we began constructing in 2022 and plan to fully commission by mid-2025, we aim to meet 100% of the energy consumed from our production sources through our own facilities.

Our power plant, being established in the Demirci district of Manisa with a total cost of approximately 21 million USD, will have a total capacity of 25,000 kWp on 325 acres of land.

We plan to have it fully operational by June 2025. With this investment, we aim to reduce our Scope 2 emissions, prevent air pollution caused by fossil fuels, enhance energy security, and contribute to combating the climate crisis.

Our renewable energy transition strategy supports us in minimizing our environmental impact and achieving our long-term sustainable growth goals. Our investments in renewable energy not only enhance our environmental sustainability but also contribute to our economic sustainability by reducing energy costs. In this context, Kervan Gıda aims to be a key player in our industry in building a more sustainable future both environmentally and economically.

Water Management

In line with our goals to conserve water resources and ensure environmental sustainability, we are strengthening our water management practices. Within this scope, we develop projects aimed at the efficient use, recovery, and reuse of water to make our operational processes more sustainable. We invest in technologies that reduce water consumption and carry out improvement initiatives to minimize our impact on water resources.

With the "Wastewater Recovery Project" and the "Cleaning and Sterilization with Dry Steam Project," we will achieve significant milestones by 2025.

As a result of our efforts, our water usage in 2024 has decreased by 27% compared to 2023.

Waste Management
At Kervan Gıda, we are taking decisive steps to reduce packaging usage and lower costs in line with our environmental sustainability goals. By embracing the principles of a circular economy, we optimize our waste management. Through the Packaging Reduction Project we launched in 2022, we reduced plastic usage and costs, achieving savings of approximately 8 million TRY and preventing the use of around 110 tons of plastic, thereby contributing to the protection of our natural resources and ecosystem. Within the scope of the Packaging Reduction Project, we collaborated with packaging suppliers to implement packaging thinning efforts for existing products. We optimized the thickness of packaging (boxes, bags, cartons) to the limits necessary to protect the product, making improvements that reduced our packaging usage (film, paper, plastic) and generated savings of approximately 1.5 million TRY.

We adopt various strategies to minimize packaging waste generated during the production process.

Additionally, we invest in innovative technologies to increase energy efficiency during logistics and storage stages. These efforts are at the core of our circular economy and waste management policies for a sustainable future and are consistently maintained to reduce our environmental footprint. In the food industry, managing packaging waste is of great importance for sustainability and the protection of environmental ecosystems.

In this context, we are also increasing the use of recyclable packaging and packaging materials made from recycled materials. Raw materials and packaging costs account for 65% of our overall production expenses.

We are carrying out intensive efforts to properly manage and reduce packaging waste, which constitutes a significant portion of our production costs. In 2023, 80% of the packaging used for end-of-production packaging (OPP) and 90% of cartons were made from recyclable materials. Within the scope of our R&D efforts and sustainable procurement strategies, our plan to transition to 100% recyclable materials for all our packaging by 2025 continues steadily.
In each new project we implement, we monitor proper packaging and packaging processes with the DOPA P committee, taking packaging quantities into account. We evaluate our packaging procurement through the Supplier Scorecard. To ensure the sustainability of packaging procurement and adherence to ethical standards, we support our suppliers by scoring them according to these principles and incorporating ILO (International Labour Organization) clauses into the contracts.

At Kervan Gıda, we continue our efforts for a more sustainable planet by fulfilling our commitments to packaging management and the efficient use of resources.
Our total non-hazardous waste has decreased by 21% compared to the previous year, while our waste recovery rate has reached 99.7%.
